Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team saw its season end with a 4-0 loss to No. 17 Kentucky in the second round of the NCAA championship Saturday at the Beren Tennis Center in Cambridge, Mass. The Buckeyes, making their sixth consecutive and seventh overall trip to the NCAA championship, finish with a record of 14-14 while the Wildcats move on to the round of 16.
Kentucky opened the match with a pair of doubles victories. Aibika Kalsarieva and Sara Foster teamed up to down Ohio State’s Erica Fisk (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) and Jackie Leskovar (Sr., Cambridge, Ontario/N.C. State), 8-5, at No. 1 and the Wildcats’ No. 2 duo, Kim Coventry and Laura Maurer topped Lindsay Williams (Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves) and Meaghan Colville (Sr., Toronto, Ontario/Western Michigan), 8-2.
In singles, No. 16-ranked Kalsarieva beat Williams, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1. Coventry followed her with a win over Lindsey Adams (Jr., Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5, and Christine Simpson topped Lindsay Bryan (Jr., New Orleans, La./Ursuline Academy) at No. 6 by a 6-0, 6-3 margin to clinch the match for the Wildcats.
The Buckeyes ended the season winning six of their last eight matches, including three in a row at the Big Ten championship that earned them the No. 2 spot in the final conference standings.
