Columbus, Ohio – Chris Klingemann (Jr., Bradenton, Fla./Texas Tech Independent) won his fourth-consecutive match in the opening round of the main draw at the 2005 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Men’s Tennis Championships Thursday but was eliminated from the event in the second round.
Klingemann, who needed three wins to qualify for the main draw of the event, defeated Vlad Obradovic of Florida 6-1, 6-3 to advance but dropped a 6-4, 7-5 decision in the Round of 32 to Roger Matalonga of Arizona to end his winning streak at the national tournament, held this year in Tulsa, Okla. The University of Tulsa is the host school at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Ohio State’s Devin Mullings ( Jr., Freeport, Bahamas/Ft. Lauderdale Prepatory) earned a bye into the main draw with a national ranking of No. 19 in preseason ITA singles rankings. He won his tournament opener 6-3, 6-3 against Jonathan Stokke of Duke before falling in the Round of 32 to Treat Huey of Virginia 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles action, defending champions of this event Ross Wilson (Sr., Toledo, Ohio/Toledo St. Francis de Sales) and Scott Green (Sr., North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), the No. 2 seed in the doubles tournament, defeated Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston of LSU 8-6 in the first round Thursday. The Buckeye duo will play Alex Jago and James Spence of Memphis Friday.
