COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team fell on the road at No. 1 Maryland this afternoon by the score of 18-9.
Freshman Sage Darling led the Buckeyes with three goals on four shots. Also scoring for the Buckeyes on the day was Mackenzie Maring with two goals while Baley Parrott, Christina Turner, Shannon Rosati and Paulina Constant (2A) all had one goal apiece.
Jillian Rizzo, who leads the NCAA in total saves, had 13 on the day.
Ohio State scored the first goal of the game on an unassisted goal by Darling. Maryland scored the next three until Darling struck again at 20:49 to make it a 3-2 game. The Terrapins would go on to score six of the next seven for a 9-3 lead at 5:49 and eventually led 11-4 at the half.
Ohio State came out strong to start the second, scoring the first goal at 27:23 on a goal by Maring while the defense held Maryland scoreless until the 19:19 mark. Rosati and Maring later scored on back-to-back goals to make it a 14-7 game with 11:50 remaining, but the Terrapins scored the next four goals to put the game away.
Ohio State won the draw control battle, 15-14, but were outshot, 45-21, on the day.
Ohio State is back in action at 10:45 a.m. next Saturday against Johns Hopkins at Ohio Stadium. Eight Buckeye seniors will be honored prior to the game.
