COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 45 Ohio State women’s tennis team (7-5) fell on the road against future Big Ten Conference opponent and No. 32-ranked Nebraska (11-1), 4-3, Friday night in Lincoln, Neb. The match marked a homecoming for Buckeye senior Cami Hubbs, who grew up in Omaha, Neb., and had not played in the state since finishing her high school career 117-0. She responded with a win at the No. 6 position to extend her winning streak to nine. Senior Paloma Escobedo and sophomore Gabby Steele also were winners in singles, with victories at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. 
The Cornhuskers swept doubles to open the match ahead 1-0. Jennifer Holmberg and Janine Weinreich won the first match off the court, downing the Buckeye duo of Kelsey Haviland and Gabby Steele, 8-6, at No. 2. Patricia Veresova and Maike Zeppernick clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Kara Cecil and Noelle Malley on court three. The final match at the No. 1 spot went to a tiebreaker, with Madeleine Gelbert and Stefanie Weinstein, the nation’s 76th-ranked duo, defeating Escobedo and Hubbs. 
Weinstein gave Nebraska a 2-0 team lead after she downed Cecil on court three in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. Holmberg, on court 5, moved the Cornhuskers within a point of the team with with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Fidan Manashirova. In the No. 2 match, Veresova clinched the win with a straight-defeat of Haviland for Nebraska’s fourth team point. 
The Buckeye won the final three matches. Steele was victorious at No. 4 over Weinreich, her seventh win in a row. She dropped the opening set before winning the second, 6-4. Weinreich was forced to retire with Steele leading 2-1 in set three. Escobedo defeated Gelbert at No. 1. She won the opening set, 6-0, before losing the second, 6-2. Escobedo returned to her winning ways in the third set, posting a 6-2 win to take the match. The final match on court was Hubbs and Zeppernick at No. 6. The Buckeye dropped the first set, 6-2, before rallying to tie the match with a 7-5 set win in the second. She went on to claim a super tiebreaker to extend her winning streak to nine matches.
The next home matches for Ohio State are March 20 in a doubleheader against South Florida and Eastern Michigan. The Buckeyes face USF at 11 a.m. and EMU at 6 p.m., with play scheduled for the OSU Varsity Tennis Center.
