Ohio State ended a defensive tussle with a 1-0 edge over Kentucky in a preseason exhibition scrimmage Saturday at UK’s practice facility in Lexington.
“It was a good game from a physical standpoint,” said Ohio State associate head coach Greg Miller. “Playing Kentucky presented a number of different problems and situations; we were ready to face another team after all our intrasquad training.
“I liked the fact that we went out in typical Ohio State fashion: wearing teams down with our fitness and depth. We made some good adjustments at halftime and at the end of the game, and, more importantly, we executed them. We can work harder from the beginning of the game, rather than taking our time to attack problems.
“Our soccer is not where we need to be, but we all feel we are at a starting point further along than where we have been in the past. We know we have a lot we can accomplish before next Friday.”
The Buckeyes open the regular season at home Friday, Aug. 19, hosting Xavier. That match at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium will begin at 7:30 p.m.
