Zach Sebert has Top 5 finish, Bo Hoag and Vaughn Snyder tie for 13th

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State men’s golf team concluded its regular season by finishing fourth at its own 39th-annual Robert Kepler Intercollegiate Sunday. The Buckeyes shot 301 during the final round for a 54-holes total of 909 (+57). Playing conditions were not ideal as the par 71, 7,455-yard Scarlet Course was cast under gray skies and temperatures in the low 40’s.

Colorado led the 14-team field on the final 18 holes with a score of 294 to win the event with a three-round total of 900. Three strokes back was Michigan State, while Kent State edged out the Buckeyes by one stroke for third. Ryan Brehm of the Spartans was the medalist with rounds of 73-72-73 for a 5-over 218 total to win by four strokes.

Junior Vaughn Snyder and freshman Bo Hoag led the Buckeyes at 13-over 226 to finish tied for 13th. Snyder carded five birdies in his team-best final round of 73 to add to his previous scores of 72 and 83. The Massillon, Ohio, native had one of two eagles of the entire tournament during the first round on the par-5 12th hole. He also finished tied for third in par 5 scoring at 2-under.

Hoag, from Upper Arlington, Ohio, had rounds of 73-78-75. He finished in the Top 10 for par 3 scoring and total pars for the tournament, posting 2-over-par on par 3s and carded 35 pars. 
 
Freshman Brad Smith finished in a tie for 23rd at 17-over 230. Smith shot a 3-over 74 and finished the event with four birdies. The Peru, Ind., native tied for sixth finishing 1-under on par 5’s for the tournament.

Senior co-captain Kyle Coconis tied for 32nd with rounds of 76-77-79 for a total of 19-over 232. It was the Zanesville, Ohio, native’s first finish outside the Top 20 this spring. He placed in the Top 10 for pars during the tournament, carding 35. Sophomore Patrick Simard, of Marbella Spain, shot 24-over 237 to finish tied for 47th after a final round of 79.

Zach Sebert, competing as an individual, had his first Top 10 finish as a Buckeye after rounds of 71-74-78 to finish tied for fifth at 10-over 223. The senior from Grove City, Ohio, led the field in birdies with 10. Sebert finished tied for fourth in par 4 scoring at 5-over and tied for sixth in par 5 scoring at 1-over.

In his first college action, freshman Michael Cress had rounds of 77-81-78 to finish tied for 45th at 23-over 236. Classmate Tanner Murphy shot a final round 79 to finish at 26-over 239, tied for 53rd. Junior Dan Rush was one shot back at 27-over 239 after shooting a third round of 81. He tied for 58th. Junior Kevin Grabeman tied for 69th at 32-over 245. Competing as a marker, junior David Becher had rounds of 79-86-85.

Up next for the Buckeyes is the 2008 Big Ten Championships, hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., April 25-27.
