COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sixteen fencers represented the Buckeye fencing team at the Division I North American Cup in Richmond, Va over the four day competition.

Six fencers finished inside the top 32, allowing them to advance to the second round of competition. Fares Arfa led the Buckeyes with a second place finish, earning a silver medal in men’s sabre. Andrew Herczak and Ameen Borojerdi finished at 13 and 30, respectively, in men’s sabre. Stas Sudilovsky led the men’s foil unit, finishing at 21.

Alexa Antipas led the women’s sabre unit with a 17th place finish. Former Buckeye Celina Merza took first place in women’s sabre, earning a gold medal. Merza is currently a volunteer student coach with the team.

The Ohio State fencing team returns to the strips on Nov. 7 for the Penn State Open in University Park, Pa.
