The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team defeated Denver at the Florida Atlantic Invite Saturday in Boca Raton, Fla. The meet was a quad-dual meet, with Florida Atlantic also playing host to Clemson and Denver. The Buckeyes only scored against Denver because the divers did not travel with the team. The Buckeyes defeated Denver 151-137.
Freshman Griet Buelens (Kapelle, Belgium/Ursulinen Mechelen) helped the Buckeyes in their victories winning both the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly. Buelens also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.69. Sophomore Gulsah Gunenc (Edirne, Turkey/Edirne Anatolian) won the 100-yard butterfly and finished second in the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley.
Nicole Maglich (Jr., Sarasota, Fla/Sarasota) placed second in the 50-, 500- and the 1,000-yard freestyle events. Rebekah Rychvalsky (So., Sydney, Australia/Castle Hill) recorded second-place finishes in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. Stephanie Fennell (So., Campbellville, Ontarion/Milton District) swam to a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke and a fourth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.
The Buckeyes return to action Saturday, Jan. 8 when they play host to Indiana, in a Big Ten meet at 1 p.m.
