COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State University women’s golf team cut through blustering winds of 20-plus miles per hour at times on Sunday (Apr. 16) to pass two teams and pull even with 12th-ranked Kent State for third place in the 2017 Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational. Jaclyn Lee and Rio Watanabe both capped off the weekend posting 73’s for 54-hole totals of 222 (+6), good for fifth-best in the 75-player competition.
Lee has now finished as the top Buckeye performer in four of the last five events and has been ranked either first or second on the squad in eight of nine tournaments during the 2016-17 season. The sophomore from Calgary, Alberta, posted scores of 73-76-73 on the Scarlet Course. She, along with Watanabe, bested 12 Golfstat Top-100 players in reaching the leaderboard’s Top-5.
Watanabe represented the Scarlet & Gray as an individual and utilized 39 pars (tied with teammate Katja Pogacar for second-most in the tourney) in shooting 75-74-73. Pogacar, meanwhile, was right behind at 223 (73-75-75), filling a slot in the Top-10 for the 15th time of her career. She contributed to the team tally in all three rounds of the `Play 6, count 4′ scoring format.
Niki Schroeder chipped in thrice as well, earning a share of 17th place with rounds of 76-74-77 (227). Zoe-Beth Brake made it five Buckeyes cracking the Top-25, registering a line of 76-75-80 (231) and tying for 24th overall.

Postseason play arrives next weekend (Apr. 21-23) in the form of the Big Ten Championships. Ohio State enters as the three-time reigning conference champions. This season’s B1G crown will be hoisted in Cincinnati, Ohio, at TPC River’s Bend.
