In Hong Lim cards a 72 to lead Ohio State in second round, Rachel Rohanna tied for ninth at 4-over

PALOS VERDES, Calif. – The Ohio State women’s golf team moved up two spots into a tie for fifth Tuesday during the season round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. The Buckeyes had the third-best score of the day at 13-over 297 on the par 71, 5,912-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club for a 36-hole sum of 597. OSU is tied with Duke and within striking distance of fourth-place UCLA (595) and third-place Denver (594).

The sunny start of the day turned cloudy in the late morning, bringing strong showers in the early afternoon that delayed play for an hour and a half. But with just 2-3 holes remaining for most of the field, the teams were able to complete their rounds during a pause in the rain.

Southern California continues to lead the 15-team field with a team score of 580, but Pepperdine carded the best round of the day with a 287 to cut USC’s lead to just two strokes. Leading Pepperdine up the board was Lisa McCloskey who moved into first place in the individual standings by firing the best round of the day with a 4-under 67.

Three Buckeyes are in the top 20. Top score of the day for Ohio State was junior In Hong Lim with a solid round of 1-over 72. She made par on 13 holes with birdies on two par 4s, Nos. 3 and 11, and three bogeys. She moved into a tie for 15th at 148 (+6).

The top Buckeye in the standings is still freshman Rachel Rohanna, who is tied for ninth at 146 after shooting 73 for the second-consecutive round. She started great out of the gate with birdies on two of her first three holes and remained at 2-under until stumbling at the end with bogeys on four of her last six holes.

Senior captain Emma Jandel is tied for 20th at 149 after a second-round score of 75. Her only big hiccup was a double-bogey on the par 5 No. 16, but she also nabbed two birdies in her round.

Rounding out the OSU lineup were freshman Susana Benavides with a 77 and sophomore Vicky Villanueva with an 80. The South Americans tied for 40th and 69th, respectively.

Also playing from Ohio State as individuals are freshman Amy Meier, who shot a 77 to move into a tie for 56th at 157, and sophomore Nara Shin, who shot a 78 to move into a tie for 75th at 162.

The 15th-annual Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge concludes Wednesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com.
