Buckeyes Blanked by Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State suffered its third straight loss Wednesday afternoon with a 7-0 setback to Ohio at Buckeye Field. The Buckeyes drop to 26-11 while the Bobcats move up to 26-14.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ohio put up four in the opening frame. The visitors plated a run on a throwing error and three-RBI triple by Mackenzie Brunswick.
  • The Bobcats scored a run in the top of the third and fourth with a RBI single and passed ball, respectively.
  • Ohio added a tally on a solo home run down the left field line by Mikayla Cooper in the fifth.

IN THE CIRCLE

Three members of Ohio State’s pitching staff saw action in the circle. Shelby McCombs (11-4) started the game and was charged with the loss after she gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits with a strikeout in two innings. Katya Duvall was the second pitcher to come in and had three innings of two-hit, two-run (one earned) work. Morgan Ray tossed the final two innings, where she allowed one hit and fanned three Bobcats.

  • The Scarlet & Gray are 4-2 at Buckeye Field this season.
  • It is the first time the Buckeyes lost to Ohio in Columbus since 1997.
  • Lilli Piper has reached base in 12 straight games, her longest streak of the campaign.
  • Four Buckeyes had a hit on the day – Bailee Sturgeon, Bri Betschel, Lilli Piper and Ashley Goodwin.
  • Bri Betschel led the team with two hits, including her third double of the season.
  • Ohio State had a runner on base in every inning.
