COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s volleyball head coach Geoff Carlston welcomed 13 student-athletes to open preseason practice Monday. The squad had its first practice Tuesday afternoon before departing for a two-day retreat. The Buckeyes return to St. John Arena on Thursday for practice. The squad of two seniors, four juniors, three sophomores and four freshmen are preparing for the season opener, set for Aug. 26 against Valparaiso (10:30 a.m.) at the West Virginia Mountaineer Invitational.

Senior leadership will come from middle blocker Kelli Barhorst and libero/defensive specialist Sarah Mignin. Three returning juniors, outside hitter Emily Danks, middle blocker Mariah Booth and setter Amanda Peterson are joined by junior transfer Mari Hole from UCLA. The sophomore class includes outside hitters Amy Schwarzwalder and Kaitlyn Leary and libero/defensive specialist Davionna DiSalvatore. The four members of the incoming freshman class are outside hitter Erin Sekinger, middle blocker Anna Faul, setter Taylor Sherwin and libero/defensive specialist Alyssa Winner. Barhorst, Danks and Mignin are returning starters for the Buckeyes.
