COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team announced its upcoming schedule today, with six NCAA qualifiers from last season highlighting the 2016 slate.
The season begins Feb. 13 with a home match vs. Detroit Mercy before heading west to face California (Feb. 19) and Stanford (Feb. 21) in a span of three days.
The Buckeyes then return to Columbus for a five-game homestand, beginning Feb. 28 vs. Duquesne. That match will be followed by a showdown with Johns Hopkins — who is set to join the Big Ten conference in 2017 — on March 5. Cincinnati (March 11), Virginia Tech (March 13) and Canisius (March 19) round out the homestand for the Buckeyes in the month of March.
On March 25, Ohio State will travel to Yorktown, N.Y., to face Binghamton at Yorktown High School, home of head coach Alexis Venechanos and current Buckeyes Katie Frederick and Emalee Mongno (Yorktown Heights) . Two days later the Buckeyes will take on Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y. The weekend will be a homecoming of sorts for 14 Buckeyes who hail from The Empire State.
The second season of Big Ten competition begins at Michigan in early April on an exact date and time still to be determined. Ohio State will host Penn State April 9 in its conference home opener before closing out its road schedule at defending national champion Maryland (April 16) and at Rutgers (April 21), a game to be televised live on BTN.
The Buckeyes will step out of Big Ten play late in the season and welcome Notre Dame to Columbus April 23 and will then close out Big Ten play and the regular season vs. Northwestern April 29 at home.
The 2016 Big Ten tournament will take place May 5-8 on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
