COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of the Ohio State men’s tennis team advanced to the second round of the 2006 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship Thursday. The tournament is being held at the Racquet Club of Columbus. Play will continue through Sunday.
Steven Moneke (So., Alten-Busick, Germany), the 2006 ITA Midwest Regional Champion, defeated Ricardo Soriano of Tulsa 6-2, 6-2 to book a spot in the final 16 of the event. Moneke improved his singles record to 12-2 on the year and has won seven-consecutive matches. He will face Lars Poerschke of Baylor in the next round Friday.
Ohio State freshman Justin Kronauge (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville) won his first round match against Jakob Cech of Fresno State 6-4, 6-4. Kronauge improved to 2-2 on the year. He will face the defending champion and the No. 1 seeded Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA in the Round of 16.
In doubles action, Devin Mullings (Sr., Freeport, Bahamas/Ft. Lauderdale Preparatory) and Chris Klingemann (Sr., Bradenton, Fla./Texas Tech Independent) won their opening round match against Bobby Cameron and Kaden Hensel of Tennessee 9-8 (5). The OSU pair will face the No. 1 seeded John Isner and Luis Flores of Georgia in the next round. Klingemann and Mullings are 8-2 on the season.
