COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Buckeyes added some international flair this week, announcing the addition of two players from Finland, including one coming off a stint with the Finnish team in the Olympics.
First up is Sara Säkkinen. The Finnish Olympian forward made six appearances during the 2018 Winter Games, and 26 appearances for Finland during international play over the last year. Säkkinen also made 21 appearances with Team Kuortane in the Liiga league where she tallied eight goals and 11 assists.
Joining Säkkinen is defenseman Eve Savander. Playing alongside Säkkinen on Team Kuortane, Savander scored five goals and notched 19 assists in 28 appearances last year.
The Buckeyes open their season for a series at Quinnipiac in the last weekend of September before their home opener series against fellow 2018 Frozen Four team Colgate. The first home series is set to get underway on Friday, October 5 at the OSU Ice Rink.
