COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Purdue Boilermakers held on to its two-day lead to claim the Women’s Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championship, while the Minnesota men successfully defended their title. The Buckeye women finished sixth, and the men were tenth. The duo of Dominque Calloway (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) and Donica Merriman (So., Trotwood, Ohio) led the way for Ohio State. Calloway captured the 100 meter low hurdles championship, with Merriman running second. Both runners smashed the Purdue Rankin Track and Field record previously held by Ohio State’s own Shandi-Boyd Pleasant in 1997. Merriman went on to win the 200 meter dash championship. The 4×400 meter relay team capped off a season in which it led the conference by claiming the championship en route to setting a new track record, and the 4×100 meter relay finished second and set a new facility record. Ryan Grear (So., Barnesville, Ohio) had promising performances on the men’s front, taking third in the mens 110 meter hurdles and seventh in the 400 meter hurdles. Andrew Pierce (So., Yellow Springs, Ohio) placed seventh in the 400 meter dash after winning his heat the day before and was eighth in the 200 meter dash.
