COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three members of the No. 24 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team received All-Big Ten honors, the conference announced Monday. Alexis Mattern earned first team All-Big Ten recognition for the second consecutive season while Jamie Stone and Olivia Aepli garnered second team laurels.
Mattern has received All-Big Ten honors during each of her four years in Scarlet & Gray. A second team pick in 2015 and 2016, Mattern is tied for 9th on vault and ranks 10th on floor exercise in the conference. The Harrisburg, Pa. native has won or tied for the all-around title seven times. She has finished on the podium 19 times this season and claimed six event titles, one of which was the vault title at the Big Five meet. Mattern has posted career marks on three apparatuses in 2018, including on vault (9.925), uneven bars (9.900) and floor exercise (9.925).
Stone, a native of Chesapeake, Va., ranks ninth in the Big Ten on floor exercise. She posted a team and career-high 9.950 on floor exercise versus Minnesota and Illinois State Jan. 27 and 9.925 on balance beam against N.C. State and Central Michigan Mar. 11. She also tied her career best on vault with a 9.875. A second team All-Big Ten honoree for the second straight season, Stone stood on the podium 13 times this season and claimed four titles on floor exercise.
Aepli, who picked up the first All-Big Ten honor of her career, checks in ninth on vault in the conference. She has placed in the top-three eight times and won vault twice. The Dublin, Ohio native had her best showing in Ohio State’s home opener against Minnesota and Illinois State, where she tallied career highs on vault (9.900) and floor exercise (9.900). She also had a career-high 39.175 in the all-around competition at Michigan Jan. 13.
The Buckeyes will compete in the evening session of the Big Ten Championships at 8 p.m. ET Saturday in Champaign, Ill.
