Buckeye ‘Taylor’s Earn All-Big Ten Status

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three members of the of the Ohio State University women’s volleyball program were recognized as the Big Ten Conference announced its 2016 postseason awards. Taylor Sandbothe highlights the group with her second straight unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten Team, voted on by the conference’s 14 head coaches. Taylor Hughes picked up All-Big Ten honorable mention while Kylie Randall is a recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

This marks the 30th consecutive season in which at least one Buckeye has received postseason laurels from the conference office. Thirty-five different OSU student-athletes have now been tabbed All-Big Ten a total of 76 times since 1983. Hughes’ followed up her B1G All-Freshman squad accolades in 2015 by garnering honorable mention as a sophomore in ’16.

These all-conference honorees and the rest of the Buckeyes earned an at-large bid into the 2016 NCAA Tournament, starting with a first round bout against Missouri State on Friday (Dec. 2) at 6 p.m. ET.

Sandbothe becomes the 12th Buckeye all-time to register multiple First Team honors and the first since Mari Hole in 2011-12. Sandbothe’s final campaign in Columbus has witnessed a bombardment of the OSU Record Books. She already leads school history with 543 total blocks entering the postseason, but also ranks top-20 in nine additional career statistical categories.

Hughes is a Jill of all trades, pacing the Buckeyes with 2,129 assists while also contributing heavily in nearly every other facet of the game. She has racked up 219 digs, 192 kills, 72 blocks and team-high 42 services aces thus far during her second season as a Buckeye.

The Big Ten Sportsmanship Award is given to student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior while holding a good academic standing and demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. Randall has simultaneously played in 74 matches, including 28 starts, while twice picking up Academic All-Big Ten recognition and being named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
