COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State synchronized swimmers Leah and Leayn Pinette will contend for spots on the 2006 U.S. National Team II squad at the 2006 U.S. National Championships April 26-29 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The twin sisters will compete in the final phase of the Team II trials at the event at 8:50 a.m. April 27 at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex. Both were members of the 2005 squad. The 2006 team’s first competition is the U.S. Open July 16-22 in Orlando, Fla.

Several Buckeyes also will participate in phase I of the 2007 U.S. Team trials. Michelle Benzie (So., El Cajon, Calif./Sweetwater Dolphins), Julia Broadfoot (So., El Cajon, Calif./Sweetwater Dolphins), Jayme DeLancy (Fr., Hamden, Conn./New Canaan Aquianas), Erin DeMarco (So., Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Aquacades), Becky Kim (Jr., Walnut Creek, Calif./Walnut Creek Aquanuts), Brooke Paul (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Coralinas), Leah (So., Bristol, Conn./New Canaan Aquianas) and Leayn Pinette (So., Bristol, Conn./New Canaan Aquianas) and Kendra Sollars (Fr., Scottsdale, Ariz./Arizona Aqua Stars) will attempt to qualify for the phase II competition. Phase I begins at 3:20 p.m. April 26 and phase II will begin after the final phase of the 2006 Team II qualifying round.

Kim, who is a member of the 2006 Team I squad, will try to earn a bid to her third-consecutive U.S. Team I squad and fourth overall. Team I was announced in November 2005 following the completion of the Senior National Trials Nov. 18-20 in Portland, Ore. The squad will represent the United States at the FINA World Cup Sept. 14-17 in Yokohama, Japan. Kim recently finished second in the solo competition at the 2006 U.S. Collegiate National Championships in Palo Alto, Calif. The Buckeyes will return to action after more than a month off when they travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the U.S. National championships.
