Molly Wood is entering her junior season as a member of the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team. Only in her third season, she brings with her a wealth of experience, having started 35 of 37 career games. Last season she led the team and finished third in the Big Ten with 79 draw controls, tying the school single-season record. The only Buckeye to score in every game last season, Wood was second on the team with 40 goals and eighth in the Big Ten with 2.35 goals per game. Off the field, she is finance major, a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten performer.
How did you decide to come to OSU?
When visiting Ohio State I felt the energy and saw all the traditions that came with being a Buckeye. It was unlike any other school in the nation. I knew right away that I wanted to come here.
How long have you been doing your sport?
I have been playing since 3rd grade.
Do you have any pre-game/match superstitions or rituals?
No, I don’t have any specific rituals. I just try to stay as relaxed as possible and have some fun during warm-ups.
What is your favorite part about your sport?
The speed of the game. Everyone says that lacrosse is the fastest game on two feet and it’s true. There really isn’t another sport like it and it’s so much fun to play.
What is the hardest thing about sport?
How much it is changing. The rules are always changing year to year, so you have to change your style of play in order to keep up with the sport. It’s extremely challenging, but it is also something that makes it fun at the same time.
How do you balance athletics and academics?
Managing my time efficiently. Once you settle in to being a student athlete, you realize that you do have plenty of time to get all your school work done along with everything you need to do with your sport. It just comes down to prioritizing and using the time that you have wisely.
Why did you choose your major?
The business world is always something that has interested me and I have always wanted to be a part of it. I specifically chose finance because I have always loved math and there are so many different things to do with a finance degree. So I’m confident I will for sure be able to find a job that I love.
What is your favorite study spot on campus?
My kitchen table with my roommates. I am in the same classes as a lot of my roommates, so we can help each other when needed, but they are a nice distraction for when I need a study break.
What is your favorite class you have taken here so far?
This past semester I took Organizational Behavior with Dr. Inks. I learned so much about the business world and how to be successful in it, but what I liked about it so much was that everything I learned I was able to translate to my current role on my lacrosse team. In this class I not only learned how to be successful in the business world, but also how to be the best teammate I can be.
What is a fun fact about you that not many people know about?
I have moved 6 times in the past 7 years.
Who do you most admire and why?
My parents because they are the most generous and kind people I know. They are the reason I am where I am today and I am extremely grateful for that. They are the type of people that I hope I can be like one day.
