Mason Jobst had seven points in two games vs. Michigan. COLUMBUS, Ohio – Mason Jobst, a freshman forward on the Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week, the Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday. Jobst tied for the NCAA lead with seven points last week, with two goals and five assists.
In the Buckeyes’ home-and-home series with No. 6-ranked Michigan, Jobst had a career-high four points Friday in Columbus and three points Sunday in Ann Arbor. In game one, he opened the scoring, assisted on a power play goal and on a go-ahead goal in the third. His final assist was from winning the faceoff that led to the Buckeyes’ gametying goal with 6.7 seconds left in regulation. He won 20-of-30 faceoffs in the game. On the road Sunday, Jobst scored a power play goal in the second period and had two assists, with one in the second period and one in the third.
The seven points extended Jobst’s point streak to six games and he has three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in the stretch. He is second among B1G rookies with 19 points (five goals, 14 assists) this season and is seventh in the NCAA among rookies with 1.00 points per game.
Ohio State hosts No. 14 Penn State for two games this weekend to open a six-game homestand. The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions will meet at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Value City Arena. Ohio State will then host Michigan State Jan. 29-30 and Minnesota Feb. 12-13.
