COLUMBUS, Ohio – Francesca Di Lorenzo, a freshman on the Ohio State women’s tennis team, has been named the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Di Lorenzo, from New Albany, Ohio, posted both a singles and doubles win in the No. 16-ranked Buckeyes’ victory at No. 12 Michigan Sunday.

Against the Wolverines, Di Lorenzo and sophomore Olivia Sneed clinched the doubles point for the Buckeyes, winning at No. 3, 6-3, to put the Buckeyes up 1-0 heading into singles. At No. 1 singles against No. 17-ranked Ronit Yurovsky of Michigan, No. 2-ranked Di Lorenzo rallied from a 3-0 deficit to start the first set and a deficit in the tiebreak to win the first set, 7-6 (7). She broke with Yurovsky serving at 4-5 to win the second set, 6-4, and clinch the Buckeyes’ fourth point for the team win.

In her first year with the Buckeyes, Di Lorenzo is 12-2 overall. She claimed the program’s first national title in the fall, winning the ITA National Indoor Championship. She started the spring ranked a program-record second nationally. She is 4-0 in doubles this spring in her only doubles matches as a Buckeye.

Next up, Ohio State will travel to Madison, Wis., for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Friday through Monday. The Buckeyes will then return home to host No. 1 ranked and defending NCAA champion Vanderbilt at noon Feb. 13 and No. 24 Georgia Tech at noon Feb. 14.
