COLUMBUS, Ohio – As the Ohio State fencing team begins preparation for the 2005-06 season, a total of 15 Buckeye fencers are listed among the current national rankings report. Six Buckeyes are listed in the senior division Top 10.

Highest among the ranked OSU fencers is Jason Rogers (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif.), who remains at No. 2 in the U.S. senior men’s sabre rankings. He helped lead the United State to the silver medal in sabre at the Grand Prix World Cup held in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, in June. At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, Rogers and the American sabre team came within one touch of earning a bronze medal.

Two other Buckeyes are ranked No. 4 in the country in their weapon, including Adam Crompton (Jr., Newark, N.J.) and Andras Horanyi (Fr., Boulder, Colo.), who is also the nation’s top-ranked junior foil fencer. Christian Rivera (Jr., Bloomfield, N.J.) checks in at No. 8 in the senior epee division.

A pair of sophomore women’s sabre fencers are ranked in the Top 10, including Eileen Grench (Davis, Calif.) at No. 7 and Amelia Gaillard (Fayetteville, Ga.) at No. 8.

Rounding out the ranked senior division men’s fencers are Jason Paul (Jr., Los Angeles, Calif.), who is No. 28 in sabre, Dimitri Kirk-Gordon (Fr., San Jose, Calif.), who is No. 28 in foil, and William Jeter (So., Cincinnati, Ohio), who is No. 37 in foil. In addition to Grench and Gaillard on the women’s side, Ally Rush (Fr., Boulder, Colo.) is No. 19 in foil, Syvenna Siebert (Jr., Upper Arlington, Ohio) is No. 24 in sabre, Beth Knauer (Fr., Medford, N.J.) is No. 26 in sabre and Kaela Brendler (Jr., San Antonio, Texas) is No. 27 in epee.

In the junior division rankings, Jeter is No. 18 in foil, Grench is No. 4 in sabre and Knauer is No. 13 in sabre. Appearing only in the junior division rankings are Jason Pryor (Fr., Cleveland, Ohio) at No. 35 in epee and Greg Saunders (Fr., South Orange, N.J.), who is No. 41 in sabre.

In addition, former Buckeye Hanna Thompson is the top-ranked senior division women’s foil fencer in the nation.
