Office of Student Life: LBGTQ Initiatives
LGBTQ Initiatives through the Multicultural Center support and advocate for the unique academic and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, and pansexual (LGBTQIAP) students and communities accross Ohio State. We nurture reflective thought and provide a welcoming and inclusive space for all members of campus to explore issues related to sexual and gender identity, to learn more about LGBTQIAP communities, and to engage the support of people minoritized for their sexual and/or gender identities and expression.
Through our programming, leadership development, training, educational resources, and service-learning opportunities, LGBTQ Initiatives further the academic mission of Ohio State and the Multicultural Center students, engaging staff, faculty and the Central Ohio community toward extraordinary experiences for all.
NCAA LGBTQ Resources
As a core value, the NCAA believes in and is committed to diversity, inclusion and gender equity among its student-athletes, coaches and administrators. We seek to establish and maintain an inclusive culture that fosters equitable participation for student-athletes and career opportunities for coaches and administrators from diverse backgrounds. Diversity and inclusion improves the learning environment for all student-athletes, and enhances excellence within the Association.
The NCAA will provide or enable programming and education which sustains foundations of a diverse and inclusive culture across dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to age, race, sex, class, creed, educational background, disability, gender expression, geographical location, income, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation and work experiences. Programming and education will also strive to support equitable laws and practices, increase opportunities for individuals from historically underrepresented groups to participate in intercollegiate athletics at all levels, and enhance hiring practices for all athletics personnel to facilitate more inclusive leadership in intercollegiate athletics.
LGBTQ Health Initiative
The LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning) Health Initiative at Columbus Public Health was created to address gaps in care and issues of health inequity within LGBTQ communities. The initiative works to provide cultural competency/humility training to healthcare and social service professionals, connect community partners through the Greater Columbus LGBTQ Health Coalition, and promote healthy lifestyle choices with programs geared toward LGBTQ communities.
Home to one of the largest Pride parades in the Midwest attracting more than 500,000 people, Columbus is a smart and open-minded city where people are free to be themselves and follow their passions.
