COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s hockey senior forward Dave Steckel (West Bend, Wis.) has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Steckel had a team-best three points to lead the Buckeyes to a 4-3 win at Bowling Green last Saturday.

Against the Falcons, Steckel tied the game at one in the first period, assisted on Andrew Schembri’s power-play goal that gave the Buckeyes the lead later in the period and then had the first assist on Thomas Welsh’s third-period gamewinner. Steckel earned Perani Cup First Star of the Game honors and he was +1 in the game. The win gave the Buckeyes a sweep of the regular-season series vs. Bowling Green; Steckel scored two goals in Ohio State’s win at Bowling Green Nov. 29, 2003.

This marks the second time this season Steckel has been named the league’s offensive player of the week. He also received the honor Oct. 6, 2003 after scoring three goals in the season-opening Lefty McFadden Invitational.

Steckel is tied for the Buckeye lead with 13 goals and is second with 22 points this season. In his career, he has 46 goals, 51 assists and 97 points in 132 games.

The No. 15 Buckeyes (16-12-0, 11-9-0 CCHA) will travel to Big Rapids, Mich., to face Ferris State (13-12-3, 8-11-1 CCHA) in a two-game series this weekend. The Buckeyes and Bulldogs will meet at 7:35 p.m. Friday and at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Ewigleben Ice Arena.
