COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s hockey freshman forward Andrew Schembri, from Mississauga, Ontario, has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Schembri had a team-best three goals and added an assist as the Buckeyes swept CCHA-foe Nebraska-Omaha at home over the weekend.

Against the Mavericks Friday, Schembri scored two goals, including the eventual gamewinner, to earn Perani Cup First Star of the Game honors. Saturday, he had a goal and the primary assist on Scott May’s gamewinning tally, earning second-star accolades. Schembri was +2 on the weekend and was not on the ice for a goal against.

Schembri is on a five-game scoring streak, with 6-3-9 totals during the stretch, and has three consecutive multiple-point outings. On the year, Schembri has 11 goals, nine assists and 20 points to lead the Buckeye freshmen.

The No. 14/15 Buckeyes (19-13-0, 14-10-0 CCHA) travel to face Western Michigan (15-13-3, 11-10-2 CCHA) this weekend. The squads will meet at 7:35 p.m. Friday and 8:05 p.m. Saturday at Lawson Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich.
