COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State men’s lacrosse All-American Kevin Buchanan, who now plays for the Boston Blazers in the National Lacrosse League, has been named the NLL’s Overall Player of the Week for the games played on the weekend of April 15-16. Buchanan also was named the league’s offensive player of the week. Player of the week awards are determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches and general managers.
Buchanan scored five goals and added four assists for a total of nine points in the Blazers’ 16-9 road victory over the Buffalo Bandits over the weekend.
Buchanan has played in 15 games for the Blazers this year and has 57 points on 24 goals and 33 assists. He has played in 27 NLL games over three years and has 26 goals, 57 assists and 103 points.
A 2008 graduate of Ohio State, Buchanan, was the 2008 Great Western Lacrosse League Player of the Year and a second team All-American as a senior when he led the Buckeyes to the NCAA quarterfinals. He ranks third in Buckeye history with 175 career points.
Boston was 8-8 in the regular season and will enter the postseason and the No. 4 seed in the east. The Blazers will take on the Buffalo Bandits April 30 in the first round of the NLL playoffs.
