COLUMBUS, Ohio Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola, members of the Ohio State men’s tennis team, were officially named to the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships field the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Thursday. The prestigious event will occur Nov. 3-6 at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Both Buchanan and Rola will compete in the singles and doubles draws of the tournament. The singles field will consist of a 32-player bracket, while the doubles bracket will be represented with 16 teams.

It is the second consecutive season the Buckeye pair has been selected for the singles portion of the event.

Chase Buchanan An at-large selection to the singles part of the indoor championships, Buchanan advanced to the semifinals of the singles draw at the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Columbus Oct. 13-17 as the No. 2 overall seed. Alongside partner, Peter Kobelt, the pair won the doubles championship at the regional.

Prior to regionals, Buchanan, a senior from New Albany, Ohio, and Rola teamed together to win the doubles title at the D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The tandem won five consecutive matches to earn the automatic bid to the indoor championships.

Buchanan is 6-2 in singles so far this season.

Blaz Rola Rola earned an automatic bid into the tournament following his outstanding tournament run at the ITA Midwest Regionals that culminated in reeling off six consecutive straight set wins to capture his second-consecutive singles crown. The Ptuj, Slovenia, native was the top-seed in the regional. The sophomore currently holds an 8-1 singles record on the year.

Alongside Connor Smith, the Scarlet and Gray duo were runner-up to Buchanan and Kobelt in the doubles final of the regional.
