COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior All-American Katie Borchers was named Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Week Tuesday by the conference office.
Borchers, a native of Russia, Ohio, crossed the finish line in a personal-best 5k time of 16:19.40 (5:16 mile pace) Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational, 16 seconds faster than her previous record set three weeks ago at the Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational. Three of the Top-4 finishers at the meet, which featured 165 runners total, were All-Americans during the 2013 season.
Ohio State closed the meet with a team score of 184, defeating three Top-40 teams and finishing three points shy of fifth place and 30th-ranked Penn State.
The weekly award is the second for Borchers this season after she previously won following her victory at Kentucky.
