Junior Kelsey Haviland blogs from the road while the Buckeyes take on Michigan and Michigan State in Ann Arbor, Mich., and East Lansing, Mich., respectively. Ohio State takes on the Wolverines at noon Saturday before facing the Spartans at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Friday
As I woke up to a cold and rainy Columbus morning, I thought to myself “the world must know we are traveling to Ann Arbor today”. My roommate Gabby Steele and I started the day with our usual pot of coffee and started packing our bags for the trip approximately 10 minutes before it was time to leave. The team met at the Varsity Tennis Center at 11:45 a.m. to load bags in our bus. Before we left we made sure to wish the men’s team good luck, as they also take on the Wolverines and Spartans this weekend at home.

The bus pulled out of the Varsity Tennis Center a little after noon. We did not wait to dig into the pre-ordered lunches our Director of Operations, Carrie Smith, picked up for us. As we ate like it was our last meal, we had a quick team vote and put in the movie “The Fighter.” I would like to take this opportunity to let everyone know I worked on homework during this time (just in case Coach Merzbacher is reading this). After a fairly short bus ride, we finally arrived in Ann Arbor and proceeded to the hotel. As we gathered our bags and went to check in, we realized the majority of the hotel is under construction. As the coaching staff worried about the team sleeping in a construction zone, we were more concerned about whether they would be serving us breakfast in the morning. We left the hotel soon after for the practice courts. The team got a light hit in at the Michigan indoor facility because of the  rain outside. With a 30 percent chance of rain showers tomorrow, it is still up in the air whether the match will be played indoors or outside.

After our hit, we immediately left for dinner. Our restaurant of choice was Max & Erma’s, the only restaurant that would take a reservation on a Friday night for 14 people. After our three-course meal, which ended with ice cream sundaes all around, the team retreated to the hotel to catch up on homework, movies and sleep. Tomorrow is a big day and a good night’s sleep is needed. Until then… Go Bucks!
