COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior diver Bianca Alvarez is the Big Ten Conference Diver of the Week after picking up four wins and sweeping the competition this past week in two meets.
Alvarez won both the one- and three-meter springboard competitions last weekend against No. 15 Michigan and Michigan State and in the process extended her unbeaten streak to eight consecutive competitions.
Alvarez, from Miami, Fla., and Miami Sunset High School, scored 327.30 and 386.62 on the one- and three-meter boards, respectively, in Ann Arbor.
Less than 24 hours later she was at it again, scoring 344.7 on the one-meter and 420.68 (a McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion record) on the three-meter board against Michigan State. The Buckeyes won the meet and stand at 7-1 on the season and will compete at the Shamrock Invite at Notre Dame this weekend.
Alvarez is a fourth-year junior who was national runner-up on three-meter in 2008 and has won four All-American awards.
This was Alvarez’s fifth Big Ten Diver of the Week award.
