COLUMBUS, Ohio –Ohio State’s men’s volleyball libero/outside hitter Mik Berzins has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week (Feb. 13). He was the starting libero in the 3-0 win over ninth-ranked Penn State, recording nine digs and handling 15 of 16 serve receptions. Berzins was a starting outside hitter in both Quincy matches, both 3-0 Buckeye wins. In Thursday’s match, he tied the OSU match record for attack percentage with 13 kills in 13 attempts. Berzins added four digs, two assist blocks and handled 17 serve receptions without an error. Friday against Quincy, he posted eight kills (.500), five digs and two assist blocks while handling 16 serve receptions without an error. For the three matches, Berzins averaged 2.56 points, 2.33 kills, 2.00 digs and .44 blocks per set while having a .980 serve reception percentage handling 49 of 50 attempts.
The sixth-ranked Buckeyes (9-2 overall, 3-0 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) travel Friday for a 7:30 p.m. match at Ball State (6-4, 1-1) at the John E. Worthen Arena in Muncie, Ind.
