COLUMBUS, Ohio – Alex Bayne, a senior outfielder on the Ohio State softball team, has been named a preseason third team All-American by CollegeSportsMadness.com.
Bayne, from Manvel, Texas, is the Big Ten’s second leading returning home run hitter. In 2016, she tied an Ohio State single-season record with 19 home runs while also batting .364 with 49 RBI and 53 runs scored. The Buckeyes were 17-0-1 in games in which she hit a home run.
A right fielder, Bayne had a .983 fielding percentage while starting all 55 games for a Buckeye squad that went 34-20-1 and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. She was also a first team All-Big Ten and NFCA All-Midwest Region selection.
Bayne and the rest of the her Buckeye teammates begin the 2017 season on Feb. 10 at the Aggie Classic in College Station, Texas on the campus of Texas A&M. College Station is less than two hours from Bayne’s hometown of Manvel. Ohio State returns 16 letterwinners, six position players and all five pitchers from last year’s team that made the program’s first regional appearance in six years.
