COLUMBUS, Ohio – After firing a seven inning complete game no-hitter against Michigan State on Sunday, right hander Eric Thompson (Jr., Fairborn, Ohio) was named the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week today.%^$ %^$

Thompson’s seven inning gem included eight strikeouts and only two walks. Only two of his pitches left the infield the entire game – both of which were flyouts to rightfield. Thompson faced only 22 batters in the game – just one more than the minimum 21. %^$

It was the first no-hitter by an Ohio State pitcher since April 3, 1989 (Dave Mumaw vs. Indiana), and only the seventh in school history. %^$

The no-no came against Michigan State’s Mark Mulder, projected by most experts to be one of the top three picks in this June’s Major League Baseball amateur draft.%^$
