COLUMBUS, Ohio – After firing a seven inning complete game no-hitter against Michigan State on Sunday, right hander Eric Thompson (Jr., Fairborn, Ohio) was named the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week today.

Thompson’s seven inning gem included eight strikeouts and only two walks. Only two of his pitches left the infield the entire game – both of which were flyouts to rightfield. Thompson faced only 22 batters in the game – just one more than the minimum 21.

It was the first no-hitter by an Ohio State pitcher since April 3, 1989 (Dave Mumaw vs. Indiana), and only the seventh in school history.

The no-no came against Michigan State’s Mark Mulder, projected by most experts to be one of the top three picks in this June’s Major League Baseball amateur draft.

Ohio State will battle Michigan State tonight in the series finale at 6:35 p.m.
