WINTER HAVEN, Fla. Alex Wimmers was named today as the Big Ten Conference pitcher of the week for the second consecutive week after picking up a complete-game win over Indiana in a non-conference matchup on Friday.

The sophomore from Cincinnati and Archbishop Moeller High School recorded 14 strikeouts, allowing no walks and just five singles to improve his season record to 4-0. The right-hander allowed the Hoosiers to hit just .161 in the outing, lowering his opponents’ batting average to .219 on the year, which ranks fifth in the Big Ten. With the outing, Wimmers’ ERA improved to 1.85, which is third in the conference, while his Big Ten-leading strikeouts total increased to 47.

The accolade is the second of Wimmers’ career, making him the first pitcher since 2006 to be named Pitcher of the Week on back-to-back weeks. The award is the fourth for Ohio State this season and the third for a Buckeye hurler.
