Athletes of the Week
• Blake Reburn, a member of the 9-1 pistol team, posted season-highs of 556 in open air pistol and 530 in open free pistol to win two of the three open events as OSU defeated Navy and the Coast Guard.

• Megan Detro, a freshman on the 6-0 women’s swimming team, won all four races she competed in Jan. 23 against Michigan to help lead the No. 28 Buckeyes to their first win over the Wolverines in 25 years, 162-132, at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Detro anchored the winning 200 medley relay to open the meet and pulled away from the field to set in motion an exciting afternoon for the Buckeyes. She won both the 50 and 100 freestyle events on either side of the first break. She and her teammates closed the meet with the win in the 400 free relay. Detro also picked up a win the day before vs. Michigan State in the 100 backstroke.

No. 21/25 Men’s Basketball (14-6, 4-3 Big Ten)
Head coach: Thad Matta
• Ohio State fell, 71-65, on the road at West Virginia Jan. 23. William Buford led the Buckeyes with 22 points.
• Evan Turner had 20 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in Ohio State’s victory over Northwestern, 76-56, on Jan. 19.

• With a 58-56 victory at Michigan Jan. 21, Ohio State became the first team in NCAA Division I to win 20 games this season. The Buckeyes won 12-consecutive games before dropping, 63-61, on the road to Purdue Jan. 25.

No. 3 Fencing

• Ohio State competed against some of the top competition in the fencing ranks at the NYU Duals Jan. 23 with the men’s squad finishing with a 4-2 record while the women were 3-3 in dual action. Both teams faced four ranked squads in the six-round competition: No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 5 Columbia, No. 8 St. John’s and No. 9 Yale.
• After a nearly six-week break, Ohio State returned to action with 23 members competing in the North American Cup Jan. 16-17 in San Jose, Calif. Junior Ben Parkins finished second in the men’s foil while sophomore Margarita Tschomakova tied for third in the women’s sabre.

• Ohio State split a road series in East Lansing, bouncing back in the second game as Patrick Schafer scored with 1:07 remaining to lift the Buckeyes to a 4-2 victory over No. 10/11 Michigan State Jan. 23.
• Taylor Stefishen scored both Buckeye goals in OSU’s 5-2 loss to Michigan State Jan. 22.

• Freshman forward Hokey Langan had a career night Jan. 22, tying the Ohio State single-game records for goals and points, as the Buckeyes defeated Bemidji State, 5-2, at the OSU Ice Rink. Langan became the second player in OSU history to score four goals in a game and added an assist to record just the fourth five-point performance in the 11-year history of the program.
• Ohio State dropped game two, 1-0, Jan. 23, with Chelsea Knapp making 32 saves.

• Ohio State shot a 6,316 on the road for wins over Navy (6,222) and the Coast Guard (6,043). Blake Reburn won both the free pistol (530) and air pistol (556) while Rob Deppi was first in standard pistol (541).
• The women’s squad remains undefeated after posting a 2,738 aggregate score. Kelsey Imig was first overall in the sport pistol (570). Erin Meadows took second in women’s air pistol with a 366, just four points from first place.

• Ohio State defeated Michigan State, 152-91, Jan. 22 as eight different Buckeyes won individual events, including divers Bianca Alvarez and Chelsea Davis, who won on the 3-meter and 1-meter springboard events, respectively. Ohio State also took first in the 400 medley relay, posting a winning time of 3:49.30.
• The next day, the Buckeyes defeated No. 16 Michigan, 162-132, in Columbus. The Ohio State win was the first over Michigan since the 1984-85 season.

• Ohio State finished out its doubleheader home opener with 7-0 victories against Butler and Xavier Jan. 20 at the Ohio State University Varsity Indoor Tennis Center. The Buckeyes have never lost their opening-day doubleheader matches under head coach Ty Tucker. The Scarlet and Gray have now won a school-record 91-consecutive home matches dating back to the 2002-03 season.

• J.D. Bergman, an Ohio State letterwinner from 2004-08, earned a spot on the U.S. World Cup Team Jan. 22. At the U.S. Olympic Training Center ,Bergman beat Bryce Hasseman, a National Team member and Olympian Andy Hrovat at 96kg/211.5 pounds in his bid to represent the United States.
