A total of 12 sports teams were presented their letter jackets in a ceremony hosted by Varsity O

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of 12 Ohio State winter sports teams were presented their letter jackets in a ceremony sponsored by the Varsity O Organization last Tuesday. First-time letterwinners from men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s hockey, rifle, pistol, wrestling, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s gymnastics and fencing were each recognized for their accomplishments.

There were no first-time recipients for diving and the synchronized swimming team was competing at U.S. nationals, where the Buckeyes took the championship for the first time in the 40-year history of the event.

Prior to the presentation of the jackets, current Varsity O women’s president Jeri Price and former Varsity O men’s president Rick Smith welcomed the Buckeyes into the letterwinner club. They also played a video of former Ohio State student-athletes addressing what it means to receive a letter.

This is the first year the Varsity O organization, with the motto “Athletes Helping Athletes”, has held official letter jacket ceremonies.
