COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rifle team’s Amanda Furrer has qualified as an individual smallbore shooter for the 2010 NCAA Rifle Championship at Texas Christian University. She is one of four individuals and eight teams to compete in smallbore rifle on Friday, March 12. Air rifle competition will be shot on Saturday, March 13. The championship, hosted by Texas Christian University, will be shot at the TCU Rifle Range and the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
Furrer, a freshman from Spokane, Wash., has shot in 11 matches this season with a 582 average in smallbore. Her career best mark was 590 at the NCAA Sectional, Feb. 13. She helped the Buckeyes win the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Championship, winning individual conference titles in both smallbore (589) and air rifle (392). Furrer earned first team WIRC All-Conference honors in both smallbore and air rifle.
A total of 48 competitors were selected for the championships. The top eight teams in both the smallbore three-position and air rifle events were selected based on the average of the three highest regular-season aggregate scores with no more than one match at any given site. The average of the three highest scores was added to the aggregate scores from the designated qualifiers to determine the top eight teams.
