COLUMBUS, Ohio – Adeena Shears, a rising junior on the Ohio State women’s golf team, won the 95th West Virginia Women’s Amateur Tuesday at Parkersburg Country Club in Parkersburg, W.Va. Shears, a native of Parkersburg, finished four shots better than her next-closest competitor, with a 2-under 214 to win the tournament for the fourth time.
Playing on the Par-74 course, Shears opened with a 6-under 68 before an even-par 74 in the second round and a 2-under 72 in the final round. She made a total of 18 birdies and an eagle over the three rounds while playing the Par-5’s in 13-under par.
As a sophomore this past season, Shears competed in 11 events, tallying 22.5 rounds toward the team total. The two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete, 2018 Academic All-Big Ten pick and 2018 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar earned on Top 10 finish with a 5-under 211 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational and placed in the Top 25 on three different occasions.
