800 Free Relay Takes 15th Place to Open Up NCAA Meet

Minneapolis, Minn. – The Ohio State men’s 800 freestyle relay opened up the 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships with a 15th-place finish on Wednesday night at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

Andrew Loy was the lead leg and went out in 1:34.50 for his 200 split and he was followed by freshman Paul DeLakis who clocked a time of 1:33.13. Nick Hogsed (1:35.07) and Matt Abeysinghe (1:34.67) swam the final two legs for the Buckeyes to combine for a final time of 6:17.37. The first two legs of the relay are underclassmen.

On the docket for day two of the NCAA meet is DeLakis in the 200 individual medley, the 400 medley relay and Stephen Romanik on the one-meter board. Swimming prelims will start at 11 a.m. ET and the diving is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m. ET.
