COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s track and field team witnessed athletes advance to the national championships in three events Saturday evening at the 2014 NCAA East Regional Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla.
Highlighting the final night of competition at the three-day regional preliminary was the Buckeyes 4×400-meter relay team. Seniors Javon Walker and Jordan Rispress, sophomore Armand Austin and freshman LaMar Bruton combined to place second in their first-round heat and fifth overall in a season-best time of 3:04.15, the fifth-fastest time in school outdoor history.
Sophomore Donovan Robertson earned the first outdoor national championship invitational of his Buckeye career, finishing third in his quarterfinal heat and sixth overall in a personal-best time of 13.70 seconds, the third-fastest time in Ohio State history.
Junior Timothy Faust secured a bid in the 200-meter dash, finishing third in his quarterfinal heat and sixth overall in a time of 20.65, .01 of a second shy of his personal-best time set in yesterday’s preliminary round.
The Buckeyes’ 4×100-meter team – Faust, Robertson, senior Brandon Blackwell and junior Nick Batcha – fell just short of qualifying for the national championships, finishing 14th overall in the first round heats in a season-best time of 39.83 seconds.
Also competing Saturday for the Buckeyes, junior Devin Smith was 28th in the high jump at 2.05 meters (6-8.75), while graduate senior Andy Arnold placed 29th in the 5000-meter run in a time of 14.44.76.
In all a total of six Buckeyes will compete in five events at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships, scheduled for June 11-14 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
