COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Pistol team recently announced their captains for the 2018-2019 season.

Zachary Dahmen, Anthony McCollum, and Emily Rust were selected by the coaching staff as well as their teammates to take on the role as this year’s captains.

"Emily Rust, Anthony McCollum, and Zach Dahmen were the natural choice for captains this season,” Emil Milev, head coach, said. “All three of them have proven to be true leaders of the pistol team. Each one was engaged in a supporting role since last year and they were ready to put on the captain’s shoes and continue to help their teammates learn, grow, and feel connected. All three of them demonstrated over and over, on the firing line and behind it, that they know how to step up and do what needs to be done, even under pressure."

Dahmen will take on his leadership role as captain by handling team events, including during travel, as well as travel organization such as outfit and team reminders. This past season, Dahmen earned a spot on the All-American Second Team for both Standard and Air Pistol as well as becoming a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Academic All-Big Ten, and OSU Scholar-Athlete. Dahmen is a senior from North Royalton, Ohio and is majoring in finance.

"To be able to come here and be a part of the best pistol program in the country is amazing in itself, but now that I have put everything I've had into it for three years, I have the opportunity to be a captain leading this year's team,” McCollum said. “It's simply an honor to be in this position to have a greater impact on the rest of my team members."

McCollum’s leadership role will consist of handling freshman support as well as training (strength and conditioning) support. In 2017-18, McCollum was crowned the Standard Pistol National Champion and earned a spot on the All-American First Team for both Air and Standard Pistol with Second Team accolades earned for Free Pistol. He also excelled academically as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Academic All-Big Ten, OSU Scholar-Athlete and Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree. McCollum is a senior from Purdin, Mo. and is majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in coaching.

"It’s an honor to serve as a captain for the 2018-19 season alongside my teammates Zach Dahmen and Anthony McCollum. I am extremely excited to help them lead our team this year." Rust said."

Rust will lead by being in charge of stats and results, and social media updates. Last season, Rust was an All-American Second Team member in Sport Pistol as well as becoming a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Academic All-Big Ten, and OSU Scholar-Athlete. Emily is senior from Sagamore Hills, Ohio and is double majoring in sports industry and marketing.

The 2018-2019 pistol captains, along with their teammates, open their season this Friday, September 28th, at Coast Guard.
