Seven-Run Sixth Inning Propels Ohio State to 10-6 Win Over Toledo
Ohio State junior Christina Douglas (Mesa, Ariz./Dobson) and freshman Courtney Pruner (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) blasted home runs during a seven-run sixth inning to lead the Buckeyes to a 10-6 come-from-behind win over Toledo in OSU’s first game Sunday at the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic.
Toledo scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead, but a two-run homer by Douglas and a three-run bomb by Pruner put Ohio State on top for good and two more Buckeyes were walked home to give OSU its final margin of victory.
Toledo led 3-2 after the first inning before Ohio State plated a run in the third inning to knot the score at three runs apiece.
Ohio State Knocks Off Ohio, 6-1, in Classic Finale
Ohio University kept Ohio State’s offense in check for the first three innings, but the Buckeyes scored three times in the fourth inning and saw Douglas blast a two-run home run in the sixth inning to cap off a 6-1 win Sunday in the finale of the 2005 Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic.
OSU freshman pitcher Kim Reeder (Salinas, Calif./Notre Dame H.S.) notched the complete-game victory and kept the Bobcats scoreless until the seventh inning while the Buckeyes were looking for their first big hit. Senior Billie Jo Carder (Celina, Ohio/Celina) was the one to deliver it with a two-RBI double in the fourth inning as part of a three-run frame and Ohio State would not look back.
In the final games of their fall exhibition season, the Buckeyes host Louisville at 1 p.m. Sunday in a double-header at Buckeye Field.
