COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 18 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team fell to host No. 16 Penn State Saturday night, 196.450 to 194.825 at Recreation Hall in University Park, Pa. The co-ed meet that included the Ohio State and Penn State men’s teams will be televised nationally at 8 p.m. March 1.
The Buckeyes (5-5) scored a 49.100 on both bars and floor, marking a season-best on floor and equaling their season-best on bars. Ohio State posted a 48.700 on vault and a 47.900 on beam.
Penn State did not have any gymnasts compete in the all-around, thus Ohio State took the Top 3 spots with sophomore Alyssa Meyer (Chesterfield, Mo./John F. Kennedy) scoring a 39.025, junior Kaylan Clevinger (Shawnee Mission, Kan./Notre Dame de Sion) a 38.650 and junior Maalika Moore-Thomas (Tampa, Fla./King) a 38.600.
Clevinger tied for first in the meet on bars with a career-high 9.90, which is a new season best for the Buckeyes. This is the fourth consecutive week for a first place finish on bars for Clevinger. She also tied a career-high on floor with a 9.825.
Moore-Thomas earned a new team season high and tied her career high on floor with a 9.90, which tied for second in the meet. She added a 9.80 on bars and a 9.70 on vault.
With a 9.850, sophomore Amanda Surine (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) tied for first in the meet on vault, while sophomore Kiki Holman (Greenfield, Minn./Rockford) tied for third with a 9.80. Holman added a 9.75 on beam.
Freshman Kristin Perchatsch (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) earned a career high on bars with a 9.825. Meyer tied Perchatsch on bars and tied a career-high on floor with a 9.825 in both events. Junior Jessica Rosette (Green Cove, Fla./Episcopal) added to the Buckeyes’ season-high on floor with a 9.80.
The Buckeyes return home against Denver Friday, March 2 at 7 p.m. Ohio State returns to St. John two days later on Sunday as they take on Kentucky, West Virginia and George Washington for senior day at 2 p.m.
