Three second period goals lifted No. 15 Ohio State to a 4-1 upset of No. 2 Notre Dame in Value City Arena Feb. 8

COLUMBUS, Oho – Boosted by three second-period goals in just over 10 minutes, the No. 15 Ohio State men’s hockey team defeated No. 2 Notre Dame, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in Value City Arena. Sophomore John Albert (1g, 2a) and freshman Zac Dalpe (3a) each had a team-best three points, with linemate Taylor Stefishen adding a goal and an assist.

Notre Dame opened the scoring at 7:44 of the second but the line of Albert, Dalpe and Stefishen scored just 39 seconds later to knot the score. Albert and Dalpe set up a Shane Sims power-play tally at 17:00 to give the Buckeyes the lead and Stefishen finished a play with his linemates at 18:35 to put the Buckeyes up 3-1 after two periods. A Mathieu Picard empty-net goal in the third period sealed the win. Sophomore goalie Dustin Carlson made 32 saves for the Buckeyes in the win.

Ohio State improved to 18-9-3 on the year and 11-8-3 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings. The first-place Irish dropped to 21-5-3 and 15-4-3-3 in conference action. The teams split the weekend series, after Notre Dame won the opener Friday in overtime, 4-3.
